To ensure that you stay warm during your surf lesson and are able to paddle properly it is very important that you have a wetsuit that is the correct size and in good condition. Please rent a wetsuit at one of the below surf shops prior to your lesson. Renting your own wetsuit allows you to choose from a selection of wetsuits and pick one that is the correct size and fit for you. Ask the sales associate at any of the below shops for assistance and they will help you pick the perfect wetsuit!
WETSUIT RENTAL & SURF LESSON PREPARATION TIPS
- We recommend renting a 4/3 full wetsuit (pronounced “four-three”) during for most of the year in California. A 4/3 has two thicknesses of neoprene (4mm torso and 3mm arms and legs). For the warmer months – August, September, October – you can still surf with a 4/3 wetsuit or you can opt for a 3/2 full wetsuit (pronounced “three-two”). A 3/2 is considered a “summer wetsuit” and has 3mm torso and 2mm arms and legs, and is for water temperatures 60° and up.
- If you are heading directly to your lesson you can wear your wetsuit from the surf shop straight to the beach!
- Bring a plastic bag (reuse a grocery bag if you have one handy) to put your wetsuit in after you surf so it doesn’t get your car wet and sandy.
- Remember to wear sunscreen on your face, bring water and a towel, and be ready to have fun!
